Lethbridge College programs are recognized locally, provincially, and nationally for their diversity and responsiveness to international and community needs, and relevance to industry. Many transfer agreements allow students to further their training at universities and colleges across Canada and the United States. The English Language Centre is a national leader in quality ESL programming.
Lethbridge College is a modern campus on a 57 hectare site in Alberta's third largest city. The main campus, at the south end of Lethbridge, rests atop one of southern Alberta's majestic coulees, overlooking both the Oldman River and Rocky Mountains to the west. Lethbridge has a population of over 70,000 and is the service hub of southern Alberta's one billion dollar agricultural economy. Warm westerly winds, called Chinooks, allow for warm summers and mild winters.
ESL courses in the English Language Centre offer language training at all levels. Classes are small and instructors are highly qualified. The Intensive ESL program offers classes for 20 hours per week and focuses on communicative practice with the language in the skill areas of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and grammar. Optional courses are also available after the student arrives. The English Language Centre offers cross cultural activities, field trips, and exchanges with Canadian students in other college programs.
Practical training is at the heart of Lethbridge College's program offerings. Labs, shops, and off-campus training areas giving students opportunities for practical training that they would normally only receive on the job. State of the art equipment can be found throughout the campus. Shops and labs maintain the latest computer, electronic, and diagnostic equipment, and access to technology is increasing rapidly. Over the last two years, Lethbridge College spent one million dollars on new computers and network capabilities. The Web site puts Lethbridge College on the electronic map, and allows them to deliver programs and services anywhere on the planet.
