The University of Alberta is situated in the heart of City of Edmonton in a scenic area on the south bank of the North Saskatchewan River. Edmonton, the capital city of the province of Alberta, has a greater area population of about 875,000 and is known for its expansive park system that runs through the city. Edmonton has cold, but sunshine-filled winters and very pleasant summers. It is located only a few hours drive from the Banff and Jasper National Parks, which offer excellent skiing in the winter and excellent hiking and sightseeing in the summer.
